LAS VEGAS — Nevada bankruptcy filings were down in November for the first time in eight months.
According to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court of Nevada, there were 2,118 bankruptcy filings in November which was a 24 percent increase over the previous month. It was the lowest number of filings since February when there were 1,674 filings. However, bankruptcy filings last month were 38 percent higher than in November of 2008.
Chapter 7 filings which are filed by individuals, married couples and businesses made up the bulk of the filings in 2009.
Nevada has the fastest rising bankruptcy rate in the nation, according to the Automated Access to Court Electronic Records system.
